1925 Seagrave and admirer

A 1925 Seagrave 1000 GPM combination pumper and admirers.

Beauty and the Beast. New fire engines excite like nothing else. Fire apparatus has an almost myth like attraction to firefighters and citizens alike. The gleaming brass trim and the fresh enamel paint with gold leaf lettering certainly was eye catching. This particular Seagrave engine is not overly adorned with trim although the white hard suction hoses lend a nice classy touch. This engine was no doubt sent to a larger department  where some trim was tolerated but an overabundance of gilt would have been frowned upon by the powers to be. One can only wonder at the child in the photo. Was she related to the firefighter in the scene?, was it a staged promotional photo?. Or was she simply an interested neighborhood child who was attracted by the excitement of the new fire engine? We'll never know but both seem to be admiring a great piece of firefighting equipment from the Columbus, Ohio builder.
