The
Cambridge Fire Department was organized in 1873 after a disastrous
fire struck the city. The department operated as a volunteer
department until 1937 when paid drivers and sleepers were hired.
This arrangement continued until 1947 when a full time fire
department was authorized by the city government. At the present
time the Cambridge fire Department consists of 20 full time
personnel operating from one central station. The Cambridge fire
Department protects the citizens and property of the City of
Cambridge and Cambridge Township.
