The
fire department has the old 1873 Silsby steam pumper out for a test of
the pump and the citizens are out in force to watch. Fire apparatus
in the early 1900's attracted the crowd as they still do today.
The Silsby was approaching an old age even then but it looks well
maintained and shiny. A full head of steam and reaching full capacity as
it drafts water from the cistern on the Guernsey CountyCourthouse
square
The Silsby steam pumper is still maintained at
the fire department and the cistern is still operational although seldom
